A Christmas Visitor
No one came carolling this Christmas,
T'was such a silent night,
Yet I saw no one in the darkness
Silhouetted by the snowy white.
No one knocked on my front door,
And came in from the cold,
To be greeted by my first noel,
Laughing and cajolled.
I spoke to no one for a while,
He'd nothing much to say,
Then sang with no one of his ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
No one put his coat back on,
My coffee left unsipped
In no one's hands to keep them warm,
The cup so tightly gripped.
Then off trekked no one in the snow
To greet some other friends,
And sit before their warming fires,
Which no one stirs and tends.
