The high jump has always been my favorite track & field event, so now I
collect high jump stamps. I continue to look for more, so if you know of others,
e-mail me. Here is a
checklist.
1. In the late 1880s, the high jump became distinguished from diving and circus tumbling
by the requirement that the jumper must leave the ground from one foot;
and that the jumper's head must not lead first over the bar.
These stamps depict the "scissors" leap, as the technique evolved from
an upright stance to a leaning stance, to lower the jumper's center of gravity.
