3. The scissors technique was superceded by the "(Western) roll"
which further lowered the jumper's center of gravity over the bar.
Note that the athlete's body is kept parallel to the crossbar. Jumps
where an athlete's head leads the trunk over the bar
were disallowed, and counted as misses.
