Here's What Was New:
March 2001
March 31, 2001 I have put a new script in Javascript Workbench,
The Form Summarizer. This utility provides real-time feedback
during the filling out of a form. A side column shows the visitor's selections, and
automatically totals the bill.
March 29, 2001 I have written an article, with examples,
about Javascript Simulated Modal Dialog Windows.
This is a common topic of discussion
among javascript coders, and the article is my contribution to that conversation. I believe
that, for a wide class of situations, my solution is acceptable. Feedback is solicited.
March 29, 2001 My work on Modal Dialog Windows has
led to the creation of a demo, Battling Modal Windows! If you just hate popup windows,
don't try this!
March 26, 2001 A new toy, the
Random Greeting Generator is shown above.
Go ahead, generate a few random greetings for yourself. I've added the script
to Javascript Workbench. You can even
personalize your random greeting. Is that generation-d irony, or what?
March 25, 2001 The front page is new.
After enduring three months of mostly negative, frightened comments, I've retired
the giant floating head
to its own special place in Javascript Workbench. There it can loom
and be "in your face" all by its little lonesome.
Prophets are always misunderstood!
March 24, 2001 I've added two new javascripts
to Javascript Workbench. No Illegal Characters
shows how to check form data for illegal characters. Another new script,
MultiSearch, shows how to use form data
to compose a complex search query and submit the query to a commercial search engine.
March 22, 2001 There have been more requests
recently for me to install and
troubleshoot cgi scripts. I needed a place to test and practice my skills.
Thus was born CGI Playland, where
you can test my working models of several scripts. I even give you links to the sources,
so you can download and install these scripts yourselves. Have fun!
March 17, 2001 I've created a couple new
seamless backgrounds, based on my wintertime photography. Look at the
five new backgrounds beginning here.
March 16, 2001 Two new scripts in
Javascript Workbench display Watermarks, which in this context
are images behind the page content that do not scroll.
Watermark 1 sits in the lower right, while
Watermark 2 is centered. All 4+ browsers.
March 14, 2001 In Javascript Workbench,
I have upgraded the ToolTips Displayer javascript
to work in Netscape 6 and the DOM.
March 10, 2001 I am making available in
Javascript Workbench a script that automatically makes a
trailbar
from a page URL. On any page in which the script is dropped, it will take
the path names from the website URL and display a list of links, with pipe | dividers.
March 4, 2001 Today is my 42nd birthday.
