Above left: I started with the new porch and its rails and balusters.

Above right: I poured cement, planted posts, bolted timbers and sanded.

Right: Here is the old, rusty, shakey metal railing that I replaced.

Below left: I tested the porch by jumping on it. Then I added more support!

Below right: Our cat, Blackie, inspects the porch and west rail, after I've stained it for the first time.
